Loro Piana® has discovered a precious, rare fibre, made from the lotus flower. Lotus Flower® is made by hand from the stalks of the sacred, mysterious flowers that float on Inle Lake in Myanmar. Spun from the stalks using ancient skills, the fabric looks similar to linen, but has the delicate fineness of raw silk. Only a few metres of fabric can be made, for a highly discerning audience.

We imagined and chose an extremely simple configuration to enhance the main features of this fabric: freshness and softness. This is our interpretation of the classic neapolitan single breasted jacket called "finto tre", when the first buttonhole are sewn on the "wrong" side, with soft shoulders and "mappina" sleeves. In our process of simplification we opted for only one button on the sleeve cuffs. The pocket on the breast was called "barchetta", in english "little boat". It describes how the pocket floats on the chest, gently angled upwards, like the bow of a sailboat. Other details are the patch pockets with the "Toppa in Toppa" pocket on the right side of the jacket. Last but not least, a peculiar feature of neapolitan tailoring: the way the buttons are sewn, called "a zampa di gallina", in english "hen-leg", a rigorously hand-made working phase.
The Trousers and Shorts
When we had a look at this textile, our first idea it was to make a special combo in order to give plus than option to our client. Starting from there, we thought to realize a pair of trousers and a pair of shorts for leisure time use. Both garments have unique details, such as the presence of printed silk inside the flap of the pockets, or as the working flat button inside the folds so dust and dirt can be removed.
